Ashley Summers

Taraval Commercial Corridor Manager

Ashley began working with the Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center in November of 2009.  Her position as the Taraval Commercial Corridor Manager is the result of a City grant and a partnership with Supervisor Carmen Chu's Office and the Mayor's Office of Economic and Workforce Development.  Ashley is working with Sunset District residents, Taraval Street merchants, and local organizations to develop a Community Action Plan to stabilize and revitalize the Taraval Street Commercial Corridor.  Some of the main goals of this project are to build neighborhood capacity to create change through grants, volunteer work, and the involvement of both merchants and residents.

Ashley comes to the Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center with a bachelor's degree in environmental studies from UC Santa Cruz and a Master's Degree in Environmental Planning from UC Berkeley.  Her focus is on neighborhood and community planning - and her Master's thesis focused on implementing a small neighborhood participation project on Taraval Street using participatory processes that she found to be successful in other case studies.

Ashley grew up in the Sunset District and still lives near Taraval Street today.  Ashley thinks the Sunset District is a fabulous place to live and work - and she says "the ocean views aren't bad either!".
