Michael Lynch
From the time of his youth Michael has built important relationships with wise and loving elders. A lifetime of community engagement work as an organizer, teacher, activist, advocate and ombudsman has prepared him for the challenge of this extraordinary opportunity with ECBA. In his role as Associate Director, Michael oversees the daily operation of the Experience Corps program at 12 schools throughout San Francisco, expansion efforts to new schools sites, and fundraising to support the program.
Michael has worked at the nexus of government, private, corporate, foundation and nonprofit business platforms, building and sustaining critical relationships. As an educator, he has known the challenge and pleasure of teaching in a variety of education systems and circumstances. In the classroom (and the boardroom) of pre-K and post-grad institutions, he has had opportunities to see first hand the value of shared wisdom that instills the critical thinking, life experience and creative skills necessary for students to be successful in all they do.
In addition to his years of nonprofit sector employment, Michael has supported local youth programs and has found satisfaction as a lead volunteer with various community-based organizations in New York City and San Francisco. He currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of Golden Gate Performing Arts, Inc., (d.b.a. San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus) and is a skills-based volunteer with The Volunteer Center supporting efforts of the Bay Area Corporate Volunteer Council.
Originally from NYC, it was there that he developed a love for and a career in community building. With a BA in Philosophy & English, he earned his MDiv while at the Pontifical North American College in Rome, Italy. There he earned a post-graduate degree in Ecumenical Theology (STL). He returned to his home community as a grassroots organizer and fundraiser, a religious leader and University professor.
A proud member of the Boomer generation, he looks forward to sharing his experience in this vital community resource.
