Ryan McCarthy designs and manages programming at the West Sunset Rec Center as part of the Rec Connect Initiative, a citywide partnership between the Recreation and Parks Department, local non-profit community based organizations, and the Department of Children, Youth and Their Families. Ryan has almost ten years of teaching experience, having taught students in Houston, New York, San Francisco, and Beijing.

Before assuming the role as Program Director with Rec Connect, Ryan taught the world famous Beacon Flash Force, a group of students in SNBC's afterschool program at A.P. Giannini Middle School who use sound, hand crafted animation, and computer programming to create dynamic, interactive movies and computer games. The Beacon Flash Force was most recently proud to be displayed at the Third Annual Sunset Community Film Festival.

Like all native Texans, Ryan has a great love of language and is conversationally fluent in English, Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, HTML, and French.
