Sean Yeung
Sean began working with immigrant children and families in 1992 and first began working at A.P. Giannini Middle School in 1994. Sean joined the Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center staff in February 1998, first as SNBC's Community Programs Coordinator and now as Director of After School Programs. Sean graduated from Boston University with a Master's in Social Work with a concentration in clinical work with children and families. He also holds a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from San Francisco State University.
As the Director of After School Programs, Sean currently supervises SNBC's four Elementary After School Program Coordinators based at Francis Scott Key, Sunset, Ulloa and Robert Louis Stevenson Elementary School. Sean also continues to manage the day-to-day operations at A.P. Giannini's After School Learning Center (ASLC). The ASLC is also one of two sites in San Francisco (and one of only 14 programs in the state) identified to be part of the California After School Demonstration Project (CASDP) for the California Department of Education. CASDP is a critical core component of the statewide technical assistance system. The purpose of the CASDP is to model and promote high quality afterschool practice and to provide statewide technical support to boost program quality for After School Safety and Education (ASES) and 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) programs in California. Sean was also a contributing writer to the SFUSD/ExCEL “Implementation Guide,” which assists new start-up afterschool programs.
Sean has dedicated his time working with children in the public school system and is a product of public education provided by the San Francisco Unified School District. Sean was born in Hong Kong, but was raised in San Francisco's Richmond District. He speaks fluent Cantonese, which usually catches both children and parents by surprise.
