The Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center is offering a wide range of fun and interesting programs this summer. Below is a basic summary of programs being offered to elementary, middle, and high school students. For complete information, download our flyer--available in both English and Chinese!

Elementary School ½ Day Camp
June 23rd – July 25th, 1:00 – 5:00PM
Monday through Friday
(Open to incoming 2nd - 5th graders)

Middle / High School Clubs
June 25th – July 25th, 1:00 - 4:00 PM
Monday through Friday
(Open to incoming 6th - 12th graders)

Did you know that it's National Teacher Appreciation Week?!? This year, San Francisco is showing teachers just how much we appreciate them not just for a week--but for the entire month of May!

Join the Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center in the Thank a Teacher Today Campaign and show teachers just how much we all appreciate their dedication, talent and partnership.

SNBC is partnering with the San Francisco Education Fund, Mayor Gavin Newsom, Superintendent Carlos Garcia, and wide array of community-based organizations, civic groups, businesses, and media partners to promote the Thank A Teacher Today Campaign in May 2008. Do you want to get involved as well? It's easy and fun! Check out the Thank A Teacher Today Campaign website to learn more about ways that you can honor a teacher who has really touched you or the life of your child.

Check it out! The Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center's Urban Music Program was recently featured on Access SF - San Francisco's public access television station. Not only was SNBC's Urban Music Program interviewed on NENtv, the Neighborhood Empowerment Network's weekly television show, but it also was the star of a column in The City Star, San Francisco's free daily newspaper (see page 4).

MOUSE SQUAD is one of the project clubs in the After School Learning Center at A.P. Giannini Middle School. We learn about computers and use what we learn to help support technology at the school.

We are now reaching out to the community to help make sure old computers and electronics end up in the right place. Bring us your electronic waste and we’ll dispose of it for FREE!

Moss Beach Homes, Inc. announces today that it will be known as Aspiranet

South San Francisco, CA - April 2, 2008 – Moss Beach Homes, Inc., the lead agency for the Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center as well as Aspira, one of the largest private providers of foster care services in California, announced that it has changed its name to Aspiranet to better reflect the work it does in communities across California. In the agency’s thirty-three years, it has gone from a single group home in Moss Beach, California, to a collaborative network of youth, family and community services that provide permanency and lifelong connections in communities throughout the State of California.

Food, Music and Fun at SNBC's Spring Community BBQ

Hundreds of Sunset residents and community members braved the drizzle on Wednesday, March 26, for SNBC's annual Spring Community BBQ. In addition to enjoying hamburgers, hot dogs, music provided by SNBC's DJ Club, youth games, and the "SNBC Photo Booth," attendees were rewarded with a beautiful rainbow! Good times at the 4th Annual SNBC Community Film Festival

On Friday, March 7, 2008, nearly 200 children, youth, and adults packed the Ulloa Elementary School Auditorium for the 4th annual SNBC Community Film Festival.

The attendees were treated to an amazing evening that celebrated the creativity and diversity within our community. Fourteen short films were screened; each film spanned in length from 30 seconds to 6 minutes, covering a wide array of filmmaking styles and subject matter. In recognition of their accomplishments, filmmakers were honored with awards from District 4 Supervisor Carmen Chu, and special Lifetime Achievement Awards were given to two of SNBC's all-star staff: Mishiara Baker and Rebecca Devlin.

in addition to an evening of great entertainment, all guests enjoyed delicious popcorn and refreshments and music by the SNBC DJ Club. Special thanks to the members of SCREAM for mc-ing the event!

Police and Community Meeting in Chinese a Success!
