SNBC offers a collection of diverse and dynamic evening programs that are free and help to build community amongst the youth, adults, and families living in the Sunset District.

Through its Community Initiatives, the Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center (SNBC) collaborates with community members on projects that seek to build a stronger and more cohesive Sunset community. These collaborations are fundamental to fulfilling SNBC's mission and vision. Current projects include:

BAMboozled.org

BAMboozled.org is a platform for us to explore, create, and express ourselves without having to worry about boundaries or censorship. Our goal is to present you, our readers, with a realistic glimpse into the many workings of our lives. We are here to write and share, which hopefully can inspire our readers to do the same. We don't attempt to disprove stereotypes, wage war against mainstream media, or revolutionize your perception of teenagers (though we hope you like us); we simply bring you what we know and feel. Our hive congregates at the Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center in San Francisco. We are also on MySpace and Facebook. S.C.R.E.A.M.

S.C.R.E.A.M., or Sunset Creators Reaching Every Able Mind, was created
to offer an opportunity for high school students to learn and work with
media production and receive stipends for completed projects.

Whether
the films are for personal interest, entertainment, or for educational
purposes, each member puts in many hours of dedication and hard work
into S.C.R.E.A.M. Students don't have to have prior filmmaking experience before joining S.C.R.E.A.M.- they simply have to want to give it a shot!

On Friday, March 7 at 7:00 PM, S.C.R.E.A.M. will be MC-ing the 4th Annual SNBC Community Film Festival.

Urban Music Program

The Urban Music Program is a club, family and musical utopia dedicated
to teaching and spreading our passion for music. This usually happens
when we are DJ’ing, making beats, freestyling, playing loud instruments,
doing field recordings, writing, recording, producing songs and
performing unusual sonic experiments. Like any good family, we
constantly inspire, support and challenge each other to grow.

The Urban Music Program was started by Jon Bernson in 1997 with 8
youth, a PMX 1600 Gemini mixer and two Technic 12000’s. Over the last
10 years, we’ve added new gear, many new branches and collaborated with
many musical souls: old and young, gifted and green, famous and almost
famous. We’ve crossed paths with hundreds of talented youth who’ve
learned and taught us much in our quest for musical truth.
