Taraval Commercial Corridor Revitalization Project

Taraval Street & 21st Avenue (1946)Taraval Street & 21st Avenue (1946)

Taraval Street is the heart of the Parkside District.  From the day steam shovels began grading its path across the sand dunes, it has been the locus of partnerships between residents, merchants and government. The first neighborhood improvement group met above Gene's grocery store at 32nd Avenue and Taraval in the 1910s, and throughout the 20th Century, residents, merchants, and government worked together for civic improvements such as the creation and extension of the L-Taraval streetcar, the founding of Lincoln High School, and the establishment of the Parkside branch of the public library. By the 1950s, the Parkside District, centered on Taraval Street, was considered the model of a successful San Francisco neighborhood. Residents, merchants, and government can again come together to build upon the success stories of Taraval Street.

Ashley Summers is the new Taraval Commerical Corridor Manager.  In her new role, Ashley is enlisting help to make Taraval Street a more vibrant, livable street for everyone.

Please contact Ashley if you have ideas and enthusiasm to help. Tell her what you think is working, what needs work, and how we can make the heart of the Parkside once again the envy of the San Francisco neighborhoods.
